St David’s College

St David’s Catholic College is proud to be St Illtyd’s sixth form.

St David’s is entirely dedicated to the education and guidance of 16-19 year olds. Our teachers are therefore specialists in their fields and consistently deliver high academic outcomes. In 2017, former St Illtyd’s students achieved fantastic A Level results, with 49% gaining A*-B and 87% A*-C.

As your sixth-form, St Illtyd’s pupils are guaranteed a place at St David’s, all you have to do is apply. We offer A Levels, vocational courses at level 2 and 3 as well as resit GCSE courses in Maths, English and Science. In total we offer over 50 subjects, details of which can be found on our website.

The Catholic ethos which you have experienced at St Illtyd’s is continued at St David’s and permeates all aspects of College life. We provide a safe and supportive environment that embraces and respects students of all faiths or none.

We are proud of our strong reputation for excellent pastoral care, and we strive to give all our students the support they need to explore and develop their ethical, moral and spiritual values.

All learners have access to dedicated Learner Coach (tutor) who oversees your attendance and studentship as well as your general wellbeing. Our Learner Support Centre provides advice and support to students with any aspect of College life, and to those with additional learning needs. Our Religion and Life Programme invites students to examine their own faith and the faiths of others, as well as encouraging you to give back to your community through volunteering.

St David’s is committed to providing impartial advice to students to help you make informed decisions regarding your progression. You will be supported in this by your Learner Coach and UCAS Manager.

Over 400 of our students progress on to over 70 universities each year, and we are the single biggest provider of students to Cardiff University. For those not wishing to go to university, we also have strong links with local apprenticeship providers, and a dedicated Enterprise Officer for students interested in starting their own business. Further information can be found on our website

In a bid to cater to the individual needs of our learners, we have established a programme designed exclusively for students who show particular academic aptitude.

The Programme is delivered through pastoral sessions, in addition to the academic subjects of your choosing. Members of the Honours Programme will complete their Essential Skills, along with a course in systematic theology at university level in the first year. There will also be a number of opportunities for extension work, including university lectures, extracurricular clubs, and volunteering.

In 2017, Honours students achieved an outstanding 66% A*- A and 89% A*- B at A Level and predominantly went on to Russell Group universities.

Applications for 2018 are now open, and can be made through our website. If you require a paper version, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Applications will be promptly followed by a Guidance Session, during which time we will discuss your application, your course choices and your career ambitions. This will enable us to ensure that you are on the correct courses for your desired career. As St Illtyd’s students are guaranteed places at St David’s, unconditional offer letters will then be issued. Please note that courses do have their own individual entry criteria which must be met. Details can be found on each of the course pages.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to St David’s Catholic College. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, otherwise use the link below to find out more.
